Who We Are

David is a seasoned technology and climate/sustainability entrepreneur, with over 25 years experience as a founder and CEO. His most recent venture, Envizi, grew to become a global leader in carbon and sustainability software and was acquired by IBM in January 2022. David served as IBM’s VP of Sustainability Solutions until March 2024. Previous ventures include Databank Technologies, an Australian market leader in disaster recovery, which was sold to Freightways (a New Zealand public company) in 2006 as well as Access Telecommunications, an early entrant in Australia’s deregulated Telco market. Most recently, David has focussed his efforts and attention in Australia’s climate technology startup sector. He is an operating partner with Bandera Capital, an investor in RELA. He also advises and mentors a number of Bandera’s other early stage investments. David’s professional background was in accounting and finance. He holds a Bcomm from UNSW and was a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He spent 8 years of his early career with Coopers & Lybrand in their audit and corporate advisory practices.

As CEO of RELA since 2020, Michael has pioneered the development and launch of the world’s first renewable energy land marketplace. With 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur, academic, and investor, he has collaborated with partners including the Kuwait Investment Authority, University of NSW and Hewitt Foods. Michael’s expertise lies in fostering deep collaboration and finding win-win outcomes amongst diverse stakeholders. Michael earned a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Canberra (winner of the ACT Economics Prize), and a Master of Applied Finance from Charles Sturt University (with Distinction). He also enjoyed a 17 year semi professional football career spanning five continents, before entering into coaching and administration. Michael and his wife have five children so he is doing his bit to bolster domestic demand for both agricultural and renewable energy production.

Stuart brings deep expertise across renewable energy markets and the drive and ability to find the right answers to complex problems. Prior to RELA, he spent over 15 years at Macquarie Group working in the London, Houston, New York and Sydney offices. Stuart has cross-functional experience in risk management, project finance and corporate finance, with a focus on the energy sector, including leading Macquarie’s risk and strategic oversight of global renewable energy investments, across ~$20bn in transactions. Stuart brings his financial and commercial expertise in leading global transaction teams to create valuable outcomes for both landowners and developers. Stuart holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) and Commerce from the Australian National University and a Master of Finance from INSEAD.

Eran has over 20 years of experience in the property industry with an in-depth understanding of the inherent value of land to development projects across all sectors. Eran earned a Bachelor of Building & Construction Management from University of Technology Sydney. He spent the majority of his life thriving in team environments, succeeding in all levels of competitive football across the Australian leagues, followed by 5 years of football administration. As with his footballing career, Eran brings a passion and desire to work with clients to find solutions to solve their challenges to ensure win-win outcomes for all parties.

Gabriel is the Founder and Managing Partner at Bandera Capital, one of Australia’s most active early-stage climate-tech investors. His background is in corporate development and project finance spanning the Energy, Power and Water sectors globally where he lead over $3bn in development and M&A transactions for AJ Lucas Group (ASX:AJL), Jacobs (NYS:J), Wood Group (LON:WG) and their major development partners. Prior to Bandera, Gabriel was a technology entrepreneur in the fintech and financial services industry, most recently co-founding and growing a global venture studio that was later sold to Simble. Gabriel is originally from Texas and a fourth-generation landowner with decades of experience in farming, ranching and land stewardship. He holds degrees in Mathematics, Engineering and Finance from Texas State University and the New York Institute of Finance.

Jess is a highly respected female leader in law and business, with over a decade of experience, including stints at King & Wood Mallesons and Scentre Group. Specialising in property transactions and general commercial law, Jess has represented a wide range of clients, from property owners and developers to financiers, across diverse property sectors. Jess now has a deep focus on the renewable energy land space, utilising her extensive background to spearhead sustainable initiatives. Her dedication to excellence and commitment to driving positive change not only benefits RELA’s clients but also contributes to the advancement of the industry as a whole. In her spare time Jess enjoys a country lifestyle with her family in Mudgee, including working with horses and tending to their ever expanding vegetable garden.

Lubo brings 12+ year’s experience in business development and stakeholder management in both primary industry and biotechnology across both North America and Australian markets. Lubo leads the Client Relations division at RELA, leaning on his unique global experience in primary industry trade ensuring high quality and value driven outcomes to agricultural landowners across Australia. He has spent the last 3 years working closely with primary producers and has cultivated meaningful relationships beyond just the successful commercial outcomes. Lubo has a strong interest in sustainability and is a proponent for sustainable farm management practices. Lubo has a BComm in Finance and graduate diploma in Digital Media and Communications.

David has been with RELA since 2022, and has been instrumental in shaping the company’s pioneering renewable-energy land marketplace. With over 25 years of experience in entrepreneurship, design and marketing, David directs RELA’s thought leadership strategy, innovating and leading a dynamic team to strengthen the company’s market presence and drive strategic initiatives. His insights have been highlighted in Foundr’s inaugural book of entrepreneurs and various notable media outlets. He holds an Honours degree in International Business & Strategy from the European Business School in London. Outside of his professional pursuits, David cherishes the time spent with his wife on their farm in South Gippsland, where he enjoys the rewards and challenges of amateur farming and the simple pleasures of rural life.

Technology plays a central role in shaping the RELA marketplace into scalable solutions for the renewable energy land market. As Head of Technology for RELA, Bal leads the technological advancements and strategic innovations across the RELA Marketplace. His role involves spearheading the integration of technology solutions, such as data analytics to optimise the platform and provide the highest calibre user experience. Bal is responsible for overseeing the platform’s technical infrastructure, ensuring system stability whilst driving continuous improvements to meet the evolving needs of renewable energy developers and other stakeholders that engage with the RELA marketplace. Bal brings an array of valuable collaborative skills to RELA following 20 years of experience in the health, financial services, engineering, education, and technology industries. He holds an MBA in Technology from UNSW Sydney which included a sustainable development exchange program in Indonesia.

Damien is dedicated to his role as a software engineer at RELA, where he plays a key role in developing the RELA platform. Cutting his teeth in agencies and start ups before moving to the world of big tech, Damien has gained invaluable insights and experiences that have shaped his approach to problem-solving. With his blend of experience, creativity, and a penchant for understanding the bigger picture, Damien continues to drive innovation in software engineering, striving to build solutions that not only meet RELAs needs of today but also anticipate the challenges of tomorrow.

Andy came to work for RELA in early 2024 after previously working for a well-known private law firm in Central West NSW for many years. In that time Andy helped in countless property transactions as well as advising on general commercial and business law. Andy has worked alongside a host of clients including property owners, developers, financiers and a range of other professionals. Andy’s ability to create relationships and connect with RELA clients allows for high level negotiations and smooth transactions. Growing up and still living in Central West NSW, Andy has a deep respect for regional communities and the people that live there. He hopes that while working for RELA, it will allow him to continue to give back to those communities and help people realise opportunities and reach their goals within the renewable energy space.

Gary brings 30 years of professional and practical experience from across the agricultural, energy and renewable industries. With an Agricultural Science background, his initial interests were in agronomy and farming. Seeing an opportunity to integrate agriculture and the resource sector he spent 12 years in the energy industry in land access in a management role. Coordination of complex regulatory, corporate, design and construction requirements with landholder requirements was a significant part of this role. Gary has also been actively engaged in the renewable energy sector, negotiating and hosting a large wind farm on his family’s land. With his extensive experience of land access, stakeholder engagement and agreement negotiation for major projects he is excited to join the RELA team. Gary aspires to deliver value outcomes for landholders with an emphasis on co-existence between the landowners and renewable energy projects. Based in Toowoomba with his family he enjoys visiting the family farm and running cattle in his spare time.

Zach is a seasoned energy sector leader and has over 15 years of experience working in the private, not-for-profit and government sectors. He has led teams and delivered projects across electricity, gas, liquid fuels and water utilities. Zach is adept at solving strategic and project delivery challenges and collaborating effectively between technical, legal, finance and senior leadership within industry, government and the community. He is dedicated to the renewable transition and is proud to be fulfilling a key role in the world’s first renewable energy land marketplace with RELA. Zach completed undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering and post graduate studies in Business and Management. In his spare time, Zach enjoys camping, swimming, running and regularly volunteers with the Australian Red Cross and Surf Life Saving Australia.

Alex combines a deep passion for rural agribusiness with valuable corporate experience. He has held key roles in agribusiness lending, including at Suncorp Bank, and prior to joining RELA Alex led various mergers and acquisitions projects at Hewitt, focusing on substantial agribusiness acquisitions, divestments, and renewable energy developments. Skilled in investment appraisal and project financing, Alex also possesses a natural ambition for deals and transactions. Growing up on a cattle property in rural Queensland gives Alex a unique perspective on the importance of aligning landowner priorities and corporate objectives. He holds a Bachelor of Agribusiness from the University of Queensland and is currently based in London, UK.

Tom Griffiths is a commercially minded Renewable Energy Analyst with a strong background in project delivery, financial modelling, and feasibility assessments. With experience across the energy, government, and technology sectors, Tom combines technical expertise in spatial data and software development with a deep understanding of renewable energy systems. He has delivered numerous feasibility studies and business cases, supporting the development of distributed energy projects across regional Australia. Tom specialises in evaluating grid connection viability and financial feasibility for both distribution and transmission-scale projects, navigating complex regulatory and technical requirements. His practical, analytical approach helps project proponents and landholders make informed investment decisions grounded in data. Committed to accelerating the energy transition, Tom is passionate about enabling clean energy solutions that generate lasting benefits for regional communities.

Dan has been with RELA since its inception, developing the initial basic IT solution for assessment. Once a teacher, Dan broke into the IT industry five decades ago, when computers took up a huge amount of space and many resources, but housed less memory than today’s mobile phones. When not working, Dan was once a karate black belt, has helped raise two children, is heavily involved with six grandchildren, and still plays soccer at age 76.

Brent Finlay boasts over 40 years of experience in the agricultural sector, managing his sheep and cattle property, Cooinda, in South East Queensland’s Traprock region. He currently serves as the Managing Director of Finlay Agricultural Industries, providing strategic advice to a broad range of agricultural enterprises and projects. Brent’s leadership roles include former President of the National Farmers Federation and Agforce Queensland, and a board member of the World Farm Organisation representing Oceania. His negotiation skills have been pivotal in addressing key issues like trade agreements and policy developments across multiple countries. Recently, Brent has chaired significant water projects like the Emu Swamp Dam and Bowen Pipeline project. He is also actively engaged in the renewable energy sector, not only hosting a large wind farm on his land but also advising landholder clients in negotiations with major energy infrastructure companies. Ben began his operational learning as a station hand. For 25 years, Ben has driven sustainable and profitable business outcomes through his expertise in sustainable land, pasture and herd management techniques and property selection. Today he manages over 230,000 head of livestock across Central and Northern Queensland, Northern Territory and New South Wales.

Ben is Chief Executive Agribusiness and Executive Director of Hewitt, and sits on the Regional Consultative Committee for Cattle Australia. Ben has also negotiated renewable energy deals on his land with a focus on ensuring that the food production system is respected within the project development and that landowner rights and land control are upheld.

Robert has been actively involved in the agricultural sector for over 30 years. During this period he has coupled his highly developed agricultural production skills with his strong financial and business management acumen, and innovative sustainable natural resource management practices to develop broadly acclaimed and highly successful agricultural enterprises. These enterprises have been recognised in winning multiple awards and have often been used as examples of Best Management Practice and Centres of Excellence.

Robert has also had invaluable experience working in financial markets giving him an intimate understanding of market fundamentals. During this time Robert held strategic leadership roles and was instrumental in developing new financial products and markets. He has applied these skills to the operation of successful commercial and social enterprises. Robert has an impressive reputation earned for his pivotal role in developing long-term commercial legal agreements at the interface between community and the corporate world. This has been crucial in stewarding his local community’s involvement in numerous large renewable energy projects and achieving beneficial outcomes by championing community interests during contract negotiations and contract administration. He continues to have an active involvement in the investment sector and has built a profile founded on the basis of sound governance and ethical decision making.

Robert has been a passionate participant in the Landcare movement since 1989. He has a unique and extensive knowledge of the movement from all perspectives including running a small and active local Landcare group; developing and positioning local and regional Landcare networks; developing, evolving, and operating Landcare social enterprises; through to initiating the process to form the peak body for community based Landcare in NSW. Through this process Robert has demonstrated outstanding capacity to generate funds and support for Landcare from the corporate, philanthropic and government sectors. In line with Robert’s values, he was a director of The Australian Rural Leadership Foundation for 9 years, during which time he chaired, and held various positions on a number of committees. The Foundation continues to make a substantial contribution to the advancement of rural, regional, and remote communities. Through his extensive experience in the commercial and not for profit sectors he has well developed networks. Robert has a strong community service ethic and has been involved in many community-based organisations, giving him an intimate knowledge of the challenges facing these vital threads in the fabric of our communities.

Daniel, a 27-year-old grazier from Capella in the Central Highlands of Queensland, works across his family’s cattle properties located in Capella and Barcaldine. They focus not only on running a productive grazing operation, but also on making it sustainable for the future.

Both properties are registered in soil carbon projects, and Daniel is currently exploring opportunities for wind and solar energy developments. He is passionate about the land, and always looking for ways to combine traditional pastoral practices with innovative approaches to land and resource management.

Bec is the Managing Director of First Nations Affairs with deep expertise in policy, ethical investing, and corporate governance, advising boards, executive teams, and sustainability leaders on embedding First Nations leadership into core business strategy frameworks.

Raylene is a proud Nanda woman from Yamatji country, with roots in Northampton and a rich upbringing in the beautiful Murchison Mid-West region, which includes Shark Bay in Western Australia. With over 25 years of extensive experience in the financial sector, Raylene has played a pivotal role in growing the First Nations Credit Union portfolio from $17M to over $200M by increasing membership among First Nations people.

In addition to her work in finance, Raylene has more than 10 years of experience in the private sector, where she has collaborated with various corporations and industries to support Aboriginal businesses through capacity building, project planning, and delivery. Raylene is deeply committed to improving the lives of Aboriginal people by promoting equality and inclusivity. Raylene holds several board positions, including those at the Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation, Yamatji Funds Management Ltd, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, and the First Nations Foundation.

Originally from a sheep and cattle property near Cunnamulla in far South West Queensland, Jo has worked across a number of industries from agriculture, small business and local government to education, communications and the NFP sector developing skills in both public and private sectors.

Jo previously operated her own business for 10 years delivering Vocational Education and Training to the agricultural industry partnering with RTOs across Queensland and NSW. Formerly an elected councillor for 12 years including Mayor for 4 years with the Paroo Shire Council, Jo has a sound understanding of regional and remote Queensland and extensive experience in economic development and advocacy.

Other roles have included CEO with the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, and Director – Stakeholder Engagement with the University of Southern Queensland, Jo is now CEO with the Queensland Farmers Federation. QFF is Queensland’s peak agricultural representative body, working collaboratively with its peak body members to progress issues and challenges facing farmers across the State. Collectively, QFF through its peak body members represent over 13,000 Queensland farmers.

Jo holds a Bachelor of Business (University of Sydney), a Diploma in Executive Leadership (Oxford University), a Certificate in Sustainable Investing (Harvard Business School), is an Australian Institute of Company Directors graduate and has held a number of board and advisory roles including previously Commissioner with the Queensland Local Government Grants Commission, Director with Sunwater, and Chair of Eco-Markets Australia. Jo is currently a member of the Queensland Energy System Advisory Board and a director with the Clean Energy Regulator. Jo is a strong advocate for the agricultural sector and has a special place in her heart for regional and remote Queensland.

Shane is a cattle and cane producer from North Queensland who served as AgForce Deputy Chair and North Regional President and Regional Director before stepping into the General President role in 2024. Shane’s focus is on ensuring that agricultural land use and Farmers rights are protected first and foremost.

He believes that if this can be through a coexistence within the energy transition while enhancing the productivity of farmers and protecting Australia’s food security and production, it must be looked at. His experience as a producer in his own right as well as representing producers through his role at AgForce will bring a valuable perspective to the RELA Assess 2.0 SRG.

Reg is a dedicated and seasoned agricultural educator and advisor with over 40 years of experience in the field. A passionate advocate for sustainable and profitable farming practices, Reg has a proven track record of delivering valuable insights and guidance to farmers, agricultural businesses and educational institutions.

His extensive background includes not only educating and advising farmers but also shaping government policies related to skills and training, agricultural chemical use and noxious weed management. He has a proven track record of nurturing growth, promoting innovation and ensuring regulatory coherence within the agricultural sector. Additionally, Reg’s expertise extends to curriculum development, training facilitation and consulting, all aimed at achieving favourable results in agriculture.

Linda delivers a hands-on, interactive, new approach to collecting data and making effective business decisions. Under Linda’s management and leadership over 1,000 South Australian Agrimanagers have received formal vocational Agribusiness qualifications. She was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship in 2012 and traveled the world over 2 years searching for real-time, decision-making tools for Agribusinesses to engage with. Having completed Government appointed roles as a Trustee for SAGIT and Presiding Member of SAFECOM, Linda decided upon returning from her Nuffield travels that working at the ground level with Agri-businesses would give the greatest pathway to strategic opportunities and change management.

Providing clients with analytical proprietary tools for short, medium and long-term decision making and delivering clients clear pathways of opportunities, measuring risk, building a robust, profitable business and learning how to engage in complex negotiations. Her belief in collaboration of resources to all parties’ collective benefit for the agriculture industry and leaving a sustainable footprint on this earth, whilst being a practicing farmer herself, will give some valuable layers of skills and knowledge to the RELA Assess 2.0 Stakeholder Reference Group.

Pete is a farm business advisor and accountant, driven by opportunity and possibility. He has 10 years of previous corporate experience and 25 years working with agribusiness families and high net worth clients in regional NSW. He works with 12 fabulous people at PrincipleFocus, and approximately 70 farming families where he and his team provide services including strategic & business planning, succession planning, developing growth business models, business coaching and accounting and taxation services.

With clients based in 3 of the 5 Renewable Energy Zones in NSW, Pete is working with numerous families involved in solar and carbon projects.

Tim has spent over 15 years as a rural advisor, previously at Elders, having joined after 12 years at Herron Todd White where he was the National Director, Agribusiness and Advisory. Tim has proven senior leadership experience and extensive success in building and leading a team while leveraging the strengths of a brand and business network.

Since moving back into roles in agriculture, Tim has built an extensive network of international and national corporate contacts on all facets of the agriculture sector as well as local family operators. Prior to this, Tim worked in the finance and banking industry in credit, private and relationship banking. Tim’s valuation background and rural land expertise will bring an important lens to the RELA Assess 2.0 Stakeholder Reference Group.

Katie-Anne has been the CEO and driving force behind the Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) since its creation in 2023. Her role at QREC includes working with industry, communities and all levels of government to deliver a thriving new energy sector for Queensland.

Katie-Anne is a leader in advancing complex policy development for large-scale industry in Queensland, with extensive experience and expertise in regulatory frameworks, land use planning, community engagement, sustainability, industry development and agricultural land. This experience and a focus on coexistence between food and energy production on land will contribute a valuable perspective to the RELA Assess 2.0 Stakeholder Reference Group.

Nathan is a seasoned professional specialising in policy, advocacy, and communications, with a focus on energy and climate change.

His diverse experience spans roles with members of parliament, non-governmental organisations, and peak industry bodies. He has successfully driven policy reforms in areas such as energy efficiency, expanding tenders for renewable energy capacity, favourable tax classifications for renewable energy projects, and the implementation of royal commission recommendations.

Nathan regularly spearheads high-profile, complex projects that attract significant media and industry attention. In 2022, he was honoured with a Community Impact Award for his leadership in developing the Climate Council’s Climate Risk Map. Currently, Nathan is pursuing a Master of Environment (Climate Change) at the University of Melbourne. He also holds a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations) and an Advanced Diploma in Screen Production.

Growing up on the land, Lachy has dedicated his career to supporting the adoption of farming practices that build soil health, improve the water cycle, enhance biodiversity, and sequester carbon.

As CEO of Kakariki Land, a carbon farming investment platform and advisory business, and former CEO and co-founder of the Carbon Farming Foundation, he brings both technical expertise and a proven track record in building successful ventures and partnerships. His experience includes the development of technology and outreach programs supporting optimised land use and the profitable integration of carbon farming and regenerative agriculture with food and fibre production. Lachy will contribute his knowledge of software applications at the intersection of farming and land use optimisation to the RELA Assess 2.0 Stakeholder Reference Group.

Tony is a passionate executive leader, committed to supporting Australian industry and to enhancing and maintaining Australia’s reputation as a leader in best-practice global business activity through his experience in stakeholder relationships, issues management and representation.

He has a deep understanding of key economic, political, social and cultural issues that impact Australian industry and works collaboratively with other industry bodies, private enterprise and the Australian Government to ensure the best outcomes for the community and business. Tony’s significant experience in public policy and advocacy with recent successes in senior strategic and people management roles and Tertiary qualifications in business, trade and industry policy will bring a valuable perspective to the RELA Assess 2.0 Stakeholder Reference Group.

Warwick is an experienced executive specialising in change leadership, policy development, and operational efficiencies with more than 20 years in the government sector. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Coexistence Queensland, a role in which he leads and works collaboratively with landholders, communities, agricultural, energy and resource companies, peak bodies, and all levels of government to achieve positive coexistence outcomes.

Murray is currently the GM of Coffs Harbour City Council. Prior to this role, Murray was Chief Executive Officer of Dubbo Regional Council, which has a population of approximately 55,000 people across an area of some 7,500km2, and maintains an annual budget of $236M. Murray led an Organisation of 687 staff with a wide range of operations and services to the community within the Local Government Area.

Through his roles in the NSW Government, Murray has developed a wealth of industry experience and knowledge across regional NSW, particularly in investment attraction and industry development, with extensive and well established national and international networks. Murray has worked on a number of initiatives such as the development of foreign direct investment attraction strategies for key focus areas of government such as the Special Activation Precincts, the development and subsequent roll out of the $100 million Regional Job Creation Fund across regional NSW, and has worked closely with the offshore network of NSW Trade Commissioners and Austrade partners to promote opportunities in regional NSW. In another role he was working closely with Australian Government agencies and industry stakeholders on enabling and facilitating an emerging critical minerals sector in NSW that can provide the critical minerals and value adding industries required for the energy transition towards Net Zero and high tech industries. This work has been about ensuring regional NSW communities are part of the solution and shall share in the economic benefits of the energy transition.
